Research in Thailand leads to possible HIV vaccine

A combination of two HIV vaccines was shown to be effective in a phase III clinical trial conducted by the US Armys Surgeon General in Thailand. In the study of 16,000 adults, a combination of Sanofi-Aventis (SNY) Alvac vaccine and VaxGens (VXGN) AidsVax was shown to decrease the infection rate of HIV by 31 percent as compared to a placebo.
