Logo to cancel news program in August; MTV executive Brian Graden to leave

The gay-themed cable channel Logo will cancel its weekly half-hour news broadcasts. A source inside the organization says the program will end on August 13.

Logo launched in June 2005 as a programming and news channel serving the niche-gay audience. The news program was originally anchored by Jason Bellini.

The show was first called “CBS News on Logo.” Recently, it morphed to become “365 Gay News powered by CBS News,” and Bellini was replaced by anchor Ross Palombo.

Logo is under the umbrella of the MTV Networks headed by Brian Graden, who is leaving the company as part of a wide-scale corporate reorganization. Graden has been with MTV for 13 years; he leaves at the end of the year, according to the New York Times.

Logo became a presence on digital cable channels nationwide. The news broadcast has been produced out of the CBS News headquarters in New York and broadcast on Thursdays, with several weekly repeats.

It’s unclear what program will replace the news when it ends in August. Logo has had several reality-based shows, and frequently runs old episodes of the program “Queer as Folk.”

I am a recent LOGO viewer, as it only became available on Dish recently in my area. I did and do enjoy the 365 News, and had hoped that the program would evolve into a real LGBT news source with more substantive stories and less fluff, even though I did enjoy the TONY Award coverage. I will be sorry not to see what a real LGBT News program could morph into.
