Lady Gaga performed as the headliner at the 20th Annual White Party in Palm Springs. In an earlier interview, Jeffrey Sanker described the event as a “half million dollar party” and added that “it will make your head spin.”
At $120 per person, in a lean economy, Sanker did what he’s done for some time. He brought thousands of people to Palm Springs. According to a report on InstantPride.com, White Party is the largest annual event in Palm Springs. The city is showing many signs of economic distress, so this annual event is a breath of much-needed cash.
Lady Gaga’s show started at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, perhaps timed with what is known as “last call” when bars must stop selling alcohol.
Sanker themed his 20th annual event around superheros. In video from our affiliate site, InstantPride.com, the event appeared to consist of mostly-standard concert fare. There was an abundance of specialty lighting and lasers, and screens that flashed occasional shots of superheros– and Wonder Woman; but when it came down to it, this was simply another year for a high-priced-well-known event.
From the DJ booth Sanker sipped champagne as Lady Gaga took the stage. Her show was a combination of raunchy craziness and the music she is known for– such as “Poker Face” and “Just Dance.” She performed for well over an hour. Based on the reaction of many people in the crowd, less may have been more. The show started late, and roughly 30 minutes into the routine, many people appeared tired.
It was 2:30 a.m. Easter morning.
Lady Gaga performed at White Party 2008, but this year she was the headliner, a significant sign of her success in the music business. During the show she thanked her gay fans, and expressed support for same-sex marriage in California. At one point she drew wild screams from the crowd asking that people “kill Prop. 8.”
