The Escalade Platinum Hybrid is a fascinating creature. If you didn’t see my first report, click here and give it a watch: Cadillac’s Escalade Platinum Hybrid is long on luxury. From the outside to the inside there are a few distinct features that designate Platinum status.
It comes with 22″ wheels, the CTS-inspired grille and LED headlamps.
But the focus of this story is that special badge; there’s no mistaking it’s a hybrid, with large, prominent green badging all around.
On the road, this vehicle is very composed, thanks in part to its magnetic ride control. And I enjoyed the several versions of propulsion you can have. When you’re towing or accelerating, the hybrid power is on tap from the 332 hp V-8 engine and the electric motors. At highway cruising speeds, active-fuel management kicks in and switches to V-4 power, resulting in better fuel mileage.
Incredibly, around town or at a complete stop, you can use electric power only, which produces no emissions. And with an electric air conditioner you have true cabin cooling with the gas engine off.
My test vehicle topped out at nearly $86,000 including delivery. Yes, it’s a steep price for a very exclusive American machine.
On the bright side, GM is currently offering up to $4,000 cash back on the Escalade.
