A fierce snowstorm paralyzes much of the eastern United States, with Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and other cities predicted to see up to 2 feet of snow.
Snow and bad weather has stranded paralyzed travel across much of the mid-Atlantic and northeastern areas of the country.
There are significant airport delays. Several airlines are offering fee waivers.
Delta Airlines – Allowing travelers with reservations between December 18–20 to reschedule flights without change fees if their scheduled travel is to, from or through Boston, Baltimore, Newark, New York City, Philadelphia, Greensboro, Lynchburg, Raleigh, Richmond, Roanoke and Washington, D.C.
United Airlines – Issuing travel waivers for passengers planning to travel to, from or through the following states between December 18–20: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Continental Airlines – Waiving change fees and additional charges for people traveling to, from or through the following airports between December 18–20: Newark, Hartford, Boston, Baltimore, New York City, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Providence and Washington, D.C.
