I’ve just completed a test drive of the freshened 2010 Mustang GT. While it hasn’t been completely redesigned, the differences over last year’s Mustang are noticeable.

I brought the 2010 Mustang to the Riverside Plaza. It seemed everyone liked the test color; one person thought it gave the Mustang a retro look. For the record the Mustang is available in 8 other colors.

The biggest changes are in the mechanical deptartment. There’s a re-worked suspension and an additional 15 HP for the V8, bringing it’s power to 315. These refinements were taken from the Ford Mustang Bullitt, which I reviewed last year.

For 2010 the Mustang gets a few accents that take this car back to its early days. According to Ford, the new headlight design is inspired by the 1970 Mustang.

The powerdome hood is also new and actually allows cooler air into the engine.

All of the sheet metal on the sides of the car is new; from the front fenders to the rear “shoulders” as I call them. Even the antenna finds a new home at the rear of the car.

And possibly my favorite feature — the LED Sequential turn-indicators — This is the first time since the mid-60s that we’ve seen this on the Mustang.

The updated dash is less segmented and more modern. For me this is a definite improvement. No doubt, the electronics are fun, but at its heart, this is another example of a true muscle car from Ford. There’s no mistaking its roar.

At Fritts Ford, in the Riverside Auto Center, The Mustang in V6 form, has a base price of $20,995.

My test vehicle topped out at $39,480; with options like 19″ wheels, glass roof, HID headlamps, navigation, and a rear view camera.
