A second Delta/Northwest flight makes an emergency landing in Detroit

122709delta.jpg Delta Airlines has detained a passenger on a flight from Amsterdam. The plane landed at Detroit Metropolitan airport. This is the same flight number involved in a similar incident on December 25. Passengers of the flight have been able to leave the plane.

John Witner is an airport spokesperson. He stated that the pilot made a report of suspicious activity on the Delta/Northwest flight 253 from Amsterdam Sunday. That is the same flight number and airline that disrupted air travel on December 25.

CNN is reporting that a Nigerian passenger was in the plane’s lavatory for 1 hour, which led to concerns by the crew.baggage11.jpg

This is the same flight number and path that had trouble on December 25. Delta is in the process of merging with Northwest.

The pilot had declared an emergency around 12:30 p.m. ET, and requested to land, according to CNN.

All aircraft baggage has been removed from the plane (pictured left), and is being inspected on the runway in Detroit.

The following statement has been released by The White House:

At around 6:00 a.m. Hawaii Time, the President received an update from his Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor John Brennan and National Security Staff chief of staff Denis McDonough on the latest information regarding the investigation into the incident on Flight 253, the security measures being taken to keep the traveling public safe, the most recent intelligence regarding that incident as well as on the reviews the President ordered into watch lists and detection capabilities. The President will continue to receive intelligence updates and monitor the situation closely throughout the day.
