US President Barack Obama has voiced his support for gay rights and pledged to rid the US military ban on openly gay and lesbian soldiers. The “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, introduced in 1993, ended the practice of asking recruits about their sexual orientation. More than 12,000 service members have been discharged under the policy, including David Hall, a former Air Force officer.
